Details

German painter, draughtsman and etcher. He was a pupil of Antoine Pesne at the Academy of Arts in Berlin. In 1748 he went to Paris and later on he visited Rome and Venice. In 1754 he returned to Berlin where he founded a private art school. In 1757 he became a member and in 1782/83 director the Academy of Arts in Berlin. Rode mainly painted historical, allegorical and religious pictures and created master drawings for illustrated books and for etchings in the style of the Rococo period and the early Neo-Classicism. //
