Details

Flemish painter, part of a family of artists, son of Joos de Momper. He spent two years in Italy, travelling with Jan Brueghel the Younger, where, according to Arnold Houbraken, he had been an early member of the Schildersbent in Rome. Philips became a member of the Guild of St. Luke in Antwerp in 1624. In addition to his own independent works, Philips also contributed staffage to some of his father's landscapes. His brother Gaspard was also a painter but little is known about him. //
