Details

German architect, part of a Bavarian family of architect, elder brother of Christoph Dientzenhofer and father of Johann Dientzenhofer. Georg built the Cistercian Abbey Church at Waldsassen to designs by Abraham Leuthner (c. 1640-1701), who seems to have given the Dientzenhofer clan their chance to rise above artisan status, possibly for family reasons, as he married in 1678 Anna Dientzenhofer. Georg also designed the pilgrimage church (Wallfahrtkirche) at Kappel, near Waldsassen (1685-89). //
