Details

Italian painter, who painted mainly portraits and character heads. He worked for Cardinal Mazarin, Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni (later Pope Alexander VIII). He was in the service of the Gonzaga in Mantua as superintendent of the galleries. He wandered from court to court at Lake Garda and died in poverty in Gargnano. One of his descendant, named also Pietro Bellotti (1722-1780), painter and engraver, was a follower of Canaletto. //
