Details

Flemish tapestry weaver, part of a family of tapissiers. He was the son of Hendrik I Reydams, who in 1658 had been dean of the guild of the upholsterers of Brussels with Jasper van der Bruggen. Hendrik II started to work in the family workshop in 1670. In 1705 he received important commissions from the Brussels Chamber of Commerce, for which he was paid 2150 guldens. His trademark was noted as H. REYDAMS. In his workshop he collaborated with painters such as Augustin Coppens (for landscapes), Victor Honoré Janssens, Charles de La Fosse and Zeger Jacob van Helmont (for the figures) for the realization of the cartoons of his works. In 1712 he set up a partnership with the brothers Urbanus and Daniel III Leyniers who were the cousins of his wife Johanna-Catharina Leyniers (1651-1733) whom he married in 1675. At Hendrik's death in 1719, his work was continued by his son Jacobus Ignatius Reydams. //
