Details

Jacopino and Bartolomeo da Reggio, Italian painters active in Reggio Emilia. Absorbing influences from neighbouring Bologna and Mantua, the two brothers's style transformed, veering away from earlier simplistic compositions, and instead embracing bustling dynamism and expressive narrative. Their early work, the so-called Tassarola Crucifixion, a fresco decorating the wall of the Tassarola Madonna Oratory in Santo Spirito, Reggio, was executed by the brothers between 1339 and 1345. Their triptych, signed, HANC TABULA(M) FECERU(N)T BA(R)TOLOMEU(S) ET JACOPINU(S) D(E) REGIO, is in the Pinacoteca di Brera, Milan. The dynamic and adroit narrative style adopted by Jacopino and Bartolomeo is in keeping with the contemporary aesthetic, forged by the young Vitale da Bologna which swept through Emilia Romagna in the period. //
