Spanish sculptor, the son of the sculptor Bernardo de Mora and pupil of Alonso Cano. His important works are the eight statues in the Capella del Cardenal. in the Mosque-Cathedral at Cordova, and the figures of St Bruno and St Joseph in the Charterhouse near Granada.
In 1704 José had lost his wife and had developed mental issues according to his biographer Antonio Palamino, whom he met in 1712. His brother Diego de Mora (1658-1729) helped to run the still thriving workshop around this time and the two created some of their most gripping works.
