German architect. From 1771 to 1778 he studied law in Göttingen and Marburg. He continued his studies in Kassel where he learnt mathematics and Drawing, against the will of his parents. From 1781 he was a teacher at the Kassel Kunstakademie. After this activity he spent several years abroad. In 1785 he became a garden architect under Landgrave Wilhelm IX of Hessen-Kassel (1743-1821). In the Wilhelmshöhe Bergpark (Mountain Park), he planned and built numerous buildings and other structures, among them a temple of Apollo, an aqueduct, a fountain, the castle of Löwenburg. //
