Austrian Biedermeier painter and restorer. Born in Vienna, he studied at the local academy, then went to Italy. After his return he painted portraits and historical paintings, including copies of older masterpieces. In 1843, he was curator of the Art Gallery of the Belvedere in which position he was dedicated to restoration. In 1857 he became director of the gallery and published a catalogue. His administrative skills allowed too little time for his art. He was knighted by the Emperor. //
