Details

French painter and poet. He was a pupil of Vouet and Perrier. In 1633 he moved to Rome, where he executed architectural paintings. Twenty years later he left Rome for Venice, where he studied the Venetian masters. In 1656, having returned to Paris, he was commissioned by Sanguin to decorate the church at Raincy. He subsequently died of paralysis. Dufresnoy's works have often been confused with those of other artists. He was the author of a treatise in Latin on painting: De Arte Graphica (On Graphic Art). An engraved portrait of this artist after Charles Le Brun is attributed to Roger de Pisle. //
