French designer and painter. He served in the National Guard 1814, but lost his employment as a town-hall clerk 1816 owing to political changes. He then studied art under Antoine Gros. Charlet was a friend of the Romantic painter Théodore Géricault, whom he accompanied to London and interested in lithography. He was famous for his lithographs depicting political and social subjects. Those concerning the Napoleonic Wars are among his best known. Charlet was an influential teacher as well as one of the most popular printmakers of his day. //
